Tiivistelmä
This thesis dove inside the interesting world of live streaming on Twitch.tv and the possibility of making it a career. Live streaming is a relatively new social media phenomenon at least to majority of social media users. This constantly evolving market can be a complicated and quite niche orientated, which makes it challenging
for new people to gain deeper insights to the matter.
The main objective of the thesis was to create a guide to a better understanding of making a career from live streaming to new people who do not possess much information about it. The theoretical part of this thesis opened the idea of revenue models and the differences between them in order to better understand the possibility of adapting them to the live streaming world. The research in this thesis was conducted independently via
researching books and online articles about the topic. In addition, using the writers’ own experiences in the field and interviewing other content creators with different backgrounds and goals in the platform of Twitch.tv were the main methods to gain a deeper and wider understanding of the keys to success on the platform.
The results showed that there are many different ways to choose and a lot of options to pick from when making your way to the live streaming scene, but there are certain guidelines and general framework which is recommended to be followed, since they have been proven to be effective by others. Generating revenue is dependent on your content, partnerships, and community. Live streaming is a lot more than generating revenue.
The findings were used to create a framework to gain a deeper, practical understanding about live streaming and starting your own production.
