Tiivistelmä
Mental health disorders are considered to be a major and an increasing public health issue (WHO, n.d.). The importance of this research question lies in its potential to shed light on the effectiveness of workplace mental health programmes and their multifaceted impact on both individuals and organisations. From the individual’s perspective, poor mental health can lead to decreased job satisfaction, impaired performance, and overall diminished well-being, leading to burnout. On an organisational level, the repercussions include increased healthcare costs, higher rates of absenteeism, and a decline in overall productivity and retention. In an era where companies are increasingly prioritising employee well-being while the barriers to disclosing mental health problems still exist, understanding the financial implications of investigating mental health initiatives is crucial. By evaluating the existing literature and conducting a cost-benefit analysis, this research seeks to provide evidence-based insights that can guide organisations in making informed decisions about the implementation of mental health programmes. Ultimately, the thesis concludes that while implementing mental health initiatives and accommodations incurs costs, the benefits far outweigh the investments. By prioritising these programmes, organisations can improve employee well-being, mitigate legal risks, enhance organisational reputation, and foster innovation. This thesis advocates for a comprehensive approach to addressing mental health challenges and promoting neuroinclusivity in the workplace, recognising the significant benefits to both employees and organisation.
