Mennään päiväkotiin! Perehdytysopas eri kulttuureista tuleville lapsille suomalaisen varhaiskasvatuksen päivästä

Abstract

Varhaiskasvatuksessa työskennellään monikulttuuristen lasten ja perheiden kanssa. Sen myötä on tarpeen ajatella, kuinka pystytään tukemaan lasten hyvää aloitusta varhaiskasvatuksessa ja estämään syrjäytymistä varhaisena tukena. Lapselle on hyvä kertoa mitä varhaiskasvatuksessa on mahdollista tehdä ja miten siellä toimitaan. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin kehittämistyönä, jonka tarkoituksena oli kehittää opas monikulttuurisille lapsille varhaiskasvatuksen perehdytysmateriaaliksi. Toimeksiantajana toimi Ruokolahden päiväkoti. Kehittämistyön tavoitteena oli kohdentaa varhaista tukea päivähoidon aloitusvaiheeseen. Yhteistyötahona toimineella Joutsenon vastaanottokeskuksella oli myös tarvetta perehdytysmateriaaliin, jota voidaan käyttää maahanmuuttotyössä lapsiperheille.

Kehittämistyön alkukartoituksena kartoitettiin perehdytysoppaan tarvetta varhaiskasvatuksessa. Kysely suunnattiin Ruokolahden kunnan päiväkodin, Espoon kaupungin Matinraitin ja Avokkaan päiväkoteihin sekä Uuraisten kunnan Pikkulan päiväkodin henkilöstölle. Toinen kysely suunnattiin Joutsenon vastaanottokeskuksen asiakkaille, joilla oli varhaiskasvatusikäisiä lapsia. Tuloksista selvisi, että varhaiskasvatuksessa ja vastaanottokeskuksen lapsiperheillä oli tarvetta oppaalle perehdyttämismateriaalina.

Oppaassa huomioitiin lapsilähtöisyys ja osallisuus. Sisällöiksi valittiin päiväkotipäivän esittely huomioiden taustalla oleva varhaiskasvatuksen pedagoginen toiminta ja oppimisen alueet. Oppaan kuvituksesta laadittiin kuvasuunnitelma, jonka perusteella kuvituksen toteutti ammattikuvittaja.

Opas toteutettiin sähköisessä muodossa kestävän kehityksen mukaisesti ja julkaistiin Ruokalahden varhaiskasvatuksen käyttöön sekä Joutsenon vastaanottokeskuksen käytettäväksi. Oppaassa oli kahdeksan sivua ja tulostettuina ne olivat A4 kokoisia. Valmis opas oli selkeä, lapsilähtöinen sekä kuvaa arjen pedagogiikkaa varhaiskasvatuksessa kuvakommunikaatiota käyttäen. Piirretty lapsi esiintyi oppaassa varhaiskasvatuksen päivän toiminnoissa.

Oppaan avulla voidaan tukea lasten hyvää aloitusta varhaiskasvatuksessa estäen syrjäytymistä varhaisena tukena. Opasta voidaan käyttää varhaiskasvatuksessa ohjauksessa auttaen lasta hahmottamaan päivän toimintoja lapsen näkökulmasta. Jatkokehittämistyönä voidaan kehittää opasta avaten varhaiskasvatuspäivän tapahtumia yksityiskohtaisemmin.

Early childhood education involves working with multicultural children and families. Therefore, it is necessary to consider how to support the good start of children in early childhood education and to prevent social exclusion as early support. It is beneficial to tell the child what can be done in early childhood education and how to act there.

The thesis was carried out as a development work, the purpose of which was to develop a guide for multicultural children as an introductory material for early childhood education. The commissioner was Ruokolahti Kindergarten. The goal of the development work was to allocate early support to the starting phase of children´s early childhood education. The Joutseno reception center, which was a co-operation partner, also needed induction material that can be used in immigration work for families with children.

As an initial assessment of the development work, the need for an orientation guide in early childhood education was surveyed. The survey was directed to the daycare centers in Ruokolahti municipality daycare center, the City of Espoo, to the Matinraitti and Avokas kindergartens in Espoo, and to the staff of the Pikkula daycare center in the municipality of Uurainen. Another survey was directed to customers at the Joutseno reception center who had children of early childhood education age. The results showed that early childhood education and reception center families with children had a need for a guide as introductory material.

The guide was child-oriented and inclusive. The content was chosen to present a day in kindergarten, while considering pedagogical activities and learning areas of early childhood education. The illustration of the guide was based on an illustration plan, and was drawn by a professional illustrator.

The guide was implemented electronically in accordance with sustainable development, and it was published to be used in early childhood education in Ruokolahti and in the reception center in Joutseno. The guide includes eight A4-size pages. The finished guide was clear, child-oriented and illustrated everyday pedagogy in early childhood education using visual communication. Drawn picture of the child appeared in the guide in the daily activities in early childhood education.

The guide can be used to support a good start for children in early childhood education, preventing social exclusion as early support. The guide can be used in early childhood education guidance to help the children perceive daily activities from their own point of view. As further development work, the guide could be developed, opening the events of the Early Childhood Education Day in more detail.
