This thesis aimed to improve procurement knowledge in the procurement analytics organization. The case company of this thesis has expanded its operations to new markets. Since this is a software company providing procurement analytics software, it is important to the case company to develop the onboarding experience and procurement knowledge of the staff.
The thesis used Action research methodology. Semi-structured interviews and a survey with targeted employees and managers were used as data collection methods for the current state analysis. At the beginning of this thesis, it was detected that not all personnel had a sufficient understanding of procurement-related topics. Therefore, the theoretical framework was constructed based on the assessment methods in the procurement training needs.
The development part of this thesis focused on improving procurement training in the case company. The thesis researcher facilized the internal development project of creating a procurement knowledge bank. This provided reference material for the procurement training course created and planned to be implemented on the online platform in the case company later in the future. Additionally, the company has decided to utilize an online learning platform for a better onboarding experience. This kind of use of knowledge management systems will give benefits related to cost and time efficiency and scalability.
The outcome of the thesis is a development proposal for the onboarding training. It was created and presented to the case company, but piloting and implementation of the onboarding training lie outside the scope of this thesis. However, the case company is committed to improving the procurement knowledge of its staff and plans to utilize the outcome of this thesis in developing the future onboarding training.
