The purpose of this thesis was to create a concept of what social and health care management is and what areas of expertise are related to it. The aim of the work was to find out how leadership and management in social and healthcare affect the wellbeing and coping of the staff, as well as their commitment to their job and job satisfac-tion. The goal was to apply the results in the training of managers in the future. The importance of social and health care management is great in terms of global health because many people work in the health and social industry worldwide. Bad management leads to unsatisfied and unmotivated subordinates, which in turn also in-creases sickness and conflicts, as well as employee turnover within the work group and in worst cases the em-ployees leave their profession. Therefore, it is very important to create a set of criteria that allow us to define what social and health care management is, so that the wellbeing and coping of the staff, as well as the training of managers can be influenced in the future.
The thesis was carried out as a descriptive literature review, in which content analysis, more specifically themati-zation was used in the analysis of the data. The thematization was made by the use of inductive content analysis, in which the data is reduced into themes that answer to the research questions. Cinahl Ultimate and Pubmed were chosen as the databases for the literature search and a total of 17 studies were selected for the literature review.
The results of the literature review showed that social and healthcare is extremely complex, and the leader or manager of this field must possess many qualities. These qualities are vital for the wellbeing and coping of the staff, as to their commitment and job satisfaction. The literature review identified 4 themes, which demonstrate the effect that leadership has in all the aspects that were mentioned above.
