Tiivistelmä
The integration of digital technology into healthcare systems has been instrumental in improving the accessibility, efficiency, and distribution of medical services and information. This study explores the healthcare landscape of Kosovo, identifying persistent challenges such as limited-service access, shortages in healthcare professionals, and a rising incidence of non-communicable diseases. Acknowledging these challenges, the research emphasises the significance of digital transformation as a promising solution.
This thesis examines Kosovo's initiatives in healthcare digital transformation and evaluates the challenges encountered during their implementation. By exploring digital transformation theories, the study illustrates the motivations, advantages, and obstacles associated with its execution within the context of Kosovo's healthcare sector.
The analysis of Kosovo's healthcare sector revealed significant challenges. The assessment of implemented digital projects in the healthcare sector notably highlighted efforts, such as the attempt to implement the Health Information System, although unsuccessful. Key obstacles identified included infrastructure limitations, a shortage of IT personnel, and substantial costs.
However, acknowledging the potential benefits in service enhancement and improved organisational frameworks, Kosovo has aimed to revisit system implementation following a feasibility study. The study concludes by advocating for an optimised framework that addresses identified challenges and maximises the potential of digital healthcare in Kosovo.
This study utilises a combination of qualitative analysis and case study methodology to examine Kosovo's healthcare digital transformation initiatives, identifying challenges and exploring potential solutions.
