Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis was to construct a plan for optimization of spare parts inventory management in a pharmaceutical company; it was essential to recognize the critical role that effective inventory management plays in maintaining uninterrupted operations and compliance within the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry. The goal was to strategically devise a plan to migrate from a manual, spreadsheet-based system to a more automated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, Microsoft Dynamics AX.
A case study methodology was used to plan in detail for migrating the data from Microsoft Excel to Microsoft Dynamics AX; the technology limitations and the particular needs of regulatory compliance in the pharmaceutical sector were taken into account while planning. Potential advantages of integrating the ERP system for managing the inventory of spare parts were considered, and challenges while implementation of the ERP system were also considered in the plan.
The proposed implementation of Microsoft Dynamics AX would greatly enhance inventory management processes at the company. The processes would be more automated with better data quality, and compliance with regulatory standards would be greatly improved. The thorough implementation plan lays the groundwork for the company to perform the data migration. When implemented, the company can be more collaborative,
perform analysis based on data, access data in real time. This is anticipated to improve operations and help in strategic decision-making, and the results obtained emphasize how important it is to use modern ERP systems to improve inventory management procedures in highly regulated environments.
