Tiivistelmä
The object of this thesis was to evaluate the level of job satisfaction among the external in-house employees in a high technology company. The name "High Tech Company Ltd" is a pseudonym used hereafter to anonymize said company. High Tech Company Ltd’s strongest asset lay in its ability to attract and retain top talent, who are highly talented in their respective fields. Operating in a niche field where talent is hard to find, these individuals play an indispensable role in driving innovation and maintaining the company's competitive edge.
This thesis also studies factors affecting job satisfaction and the current level of job motivation of said employees. The results of the external in-house employees were also compared to the results of the rest of High Tech Company Ltd’s employees. By delving into these aspects, the aim was to provide valuable insights into employee perspectives and offer recommendations for further studies. The results of external in-house employees had previously been embedded in their respective team’s results and were now viewed as a distinct population, enabling a more targeted exploration of their specific needs. This study included a kick-off interview and a concluding interview with a representative of HR.
The theoretical background of this thesis centers on organizational behavior theories, with a particular emphasis on theories concerning job satisfaction and job motivation. Subsequently, an in-depth examination of the results from the employee satisfaction survey was conducted, with a deliberate effort to interpret these results through the theoretical lenses provided by the studied organizational behavior frameworks.
Employing a quantitative approach, an employee satisfaction survey was conducted in High Tech Company Ltd and it garnered responses from 91% of the target group, totaling 50 answers out of 55. The findings revealed a high level of job satisfaction and job motivation among the external in-house employees. The realization of the most meaningful factors affecting job satisfaction was at a good level, indicating that these factors were generally being fulfilled to a satisfactory extent within High Tech Company Ltd.
Some areas of improvement were identified, particularly in factors such as fair salary and perks, opportunities for career advancement, and development opportunities which match employees’ own interests. However, these factors also had the most distribution between realization. Drawing from these findings, recommendations for future research for High Tech Company Ltd were outlined, aiming to further deepen understanding of the subject and support all actions to be taken in improving or maintaining employee satisfaction and motivation among the external in-house employees in High Tech Company Ltd.
