This thesis documents the comprehensive transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 at RELEX Solutions, marking a significant leap in operating system upgrades within the organization. The project was initiated following a successful pilot involving the IT and Information Security departments, leading to a company-wide rollout to over 900 Windows users. This upgrade focused on enhancing user interfaces, app compatibility, and security measures, which are crucial for supporting the company's integrated supply chain planning solutions.
Critical aspects of the migration included the introduction of a refreshed user interface, improved multi-monitor support, integration of Android apps, and significant advancements in system security and productivity tools. This thesis explores the meticulous planning, execution, and communication strategies to ensure a seamless transition, enhancing user experience and organizational efficiency.
The transition was a technical update and a strategic enhancement to align with evolving technological landscapes in a fast-paced digital world. By detailing strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and phased implementation, this study provides valuable insights into managing large-scale software upgrades that could serve as a guide for similar endeavors in other organizations.
Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, such as Kotter's Change Management model and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), alongside practical execution strategies, this research provides a comprehensive account of the dynamics involved in upgrading to a more advanced operating system within a corporate setting. Based on the insights and experiences derived from this project, the author has developed guidelines designed to assist other organizations in conducting similar upgrade projects. These guidelines are a practical product of this thesis, offering a structured approach to managing large-scale technology transitions tailored to enhance operational efficiency and user adaptation in various business environments.
