Tiivistelmä
This product thesis aimed to address the challenges individuals face when seeking mental health professionals based on their needs and proposes a design-driven solution to address them.
The study objectives included understanding what challenges individuals encounter when seeking a mental health professional based on their needs and designing the prototype of a website that helps individuals to find a suitable mental health professional based on filtering and selected criteria.
The research employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data to understand user experiences and to inform the design of the product. The theoretical framework included research data concerning the accessibility of rehabilitation psychotherapy in Finland, the benefits of psychotherapy, and challenges in accessing psychotherapy. Additionally, it explored the application of design thinking in product development and its potential to alleviate healthcare challenges. Scientific databases were utilized to gather relevant academic literature.
The final product of this thesis is a functional mental health portal prototype designed through the iterative process of design thinking. The data collected throughout the research process informed the design and refinement of the prototype. This thesis contributes to the field of human-centred design in healthcare by proposing a user-friendly solution for navigating the search for mental health professionals.
