The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation strategy of integrating Lean and Agile project management within start-up projects in Nigeria as a case study. Qualitative data was collected from six Lean and Agile project management experts using online interviews conducted through Zoom. Thematic analysis of the data revealed that Lean and Agile practices have great significance because they help to reduce waste, minimise costs, increase customer satisfaction, maximise customer value, and increase transparency in the supply chain.
It is established that autocratic leadership is positively linked to the success of Lean practices, while democratic leadership styles have a positive impact on the success of Agile practices. The implementation of integrated Lean and Agile practices can be done through four different strategies. The strategies are different times in the in the same space, different spaces at the same time, different spaces at a different time, or the same space at the same time. Based on the findings, it is imperative to customize the Lean and Agile methodologies to fit the context of the organization.
The study's recommendations include the need to accelerate knowledge sharing regarding the value of Lean and Agile practices. Increased knowledge sharing will empower startups to implement the practices on a broader scale. Moreover, the development of infrastructure at local and national levels will help to hasten the uptake of certain Lean practices, such as just-in-time delivery. The local and national governments have a significant role to play in knowledge sharing and infrastructure development
