An ex con-woman and a jailbird now a fresh veterinarian gets a second chance as the new county vet in her childhood turf. The one that she has left trauma- tised by her actions as a militant animal activist.
Synopsis
Liselotte “Li” Björkvist returns home. A small town that was the scenery of her childhood and unfortunate teen years. Animal right activism led to a catastrophe and she was incarcerated forced to leave the former life behind. The years of exile were filled with activities on the grey zone when it comes to law. As with so many before her and many to follow she eventually crossed the line one time too many and fell prey to the legal system. A downward cycle ensued. The bot- tom is always there to be found.
Li got a new lease on life, when she was offered a chance to become a vet by an insightful social worker. To become a vet takes six years. That time she spent on a prison farm not as a convict but as an apprentice. Not a prisoner, but not free to go either.
The story begins when Li is finally free from criminal life. Her twin sister, Nilla, also her lawyer, wants her back. Nilla has set up a learning-while-working in- ternship to Li. Li will be a fully trained vet with a degree only if the internship ends successfully. Nilla is ready to use every trick on her trade and then some to make Li stay. Li is happy to be able to start again, but wants to escape as she can’t take her own quilt and the repulsion of the community. Li’s family is bro- ken. The community hates her with only few exceptions. Li wants to leave and Nilla has to scheme all she can to make Li stay. Nilla’s own ghosts make the task difficult as she has never faced them. That makes her difficult to approach and works against her wishes about Li not to mention everything else in her personal life. Li is tricked to return against her will but wants to be able to lead a normal life, have a degree and thus reach independence. Has she got what it takes to get there?
