The current educational South African landscape aims to promote the vision of lifelong learning. The diverse mixture between different types of courses and short learning programmes are extremely popular in various aspects of education globally. However, offering an online Short Learning Programme in the context of South African Performing Arts is a new educational practice, which was established during the COVID 19 pandemic and is still in its beginner phase period.
The outcome of the study is a conceptualised online pilot Short Learning Programme addressing Artivism in the scope of Performing Arts Education. The concept of Artivism is based on the infusion of activism in the arts addressing social justice or change. The ideology of Artivism is not to create art for entertainment purposes but instead to use its creative power to provoke, inspire, shed light on and address social issues, injustice, and inequality. The Online Short Learning Programme and its scope is structured according to modules that include theoretical lessons, interactive discussions, assessments and online webinar.
The study uses a qualitative research methodology which utilized desktop research to collect and analyse data from a number of sources such as reports, articles, websites, and books. The study itself is innovative and provides a new concept to be further studied in the field of Performing Arts. Additionally, the conceptualized Online Short Learning Programme presents a unique opportunity to stakeholders interested in the concept of Artivism to invest in its practical use.
