dc.description.abstract | Extreme board sports, characterized by high-speed maneuvers and aerial tricks, have gained immense popularity among adrenaline-seeking enthusiasts. However, these sports expose participants to a heightened risk of knee injuries due to frequent high-impact landings. The knee joint plays a crucial role in absorbing forces during landings, acting as a shock absorber and maintaining stability to prevent injury. This thesis investigates knee injuries sustained in extreme board sports like kitesurfing, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. In particular the injury of the ACL. It explores aspects of rehabilitation, return to sport, future maintenance, and associated risks.
As a overlap in participation across these sports, underscoring the shared nature of risks and injury mechanisms is vital for orthopaedics, physiotherapists, and sports enthusiasts to ensure long-term participation and injury prevention. The importance of proper knee function, rehabilitation, and informed participation is emphasized to minimize future risks and enhance clinical outcomes. As Sir Francis Bacon once said, "Knowledge is power," highlighting the necessity of awareness and education in mitigating injury risks in extreme board sports. | - |
