Tiivistelmä
The study investigates the expanding phenomenon of immigrant entrepreneurship in Finland. Focusing particularly on the experiences of four immigrant entrepreneurs from various immigrant communities, the study tends to examine their motives, obstacles, and strategies for building successful businesses.
The study uncovers key motives behind immigrant entrepreneurship. Many immigrants start their businesses because of limited job opportunities and difficulties advancing their careers in the Finnish labor market. Owning a business becomes a way for them to gain financial independence. However, they face challenges such as high taxes, language barriers, cultural differences, and inadequate financial assistance. Despite these obstacles, immigrant entrepreneurs in Finland rely on social networks, family support, and previous business experience to succeed. Many also work part-time jobs for extra income to expand their business beyond Finland and build strong reputations to attract customers.
While the findings align with previous research on immigrant entrepreneurship, this study sheds light on some unique key challenges for immigrant entrepreneurs in Finland, such as limited career advancement, reliance on part-time jobs for extra income, and expanding businesses beyond Finland. It also emphasizes the importance of self-motivation and building a brand reputation to reach a wider audience. Overall, it provides valuable information on the unique challenges and strategies of immigrant entrepreneurs in Finland.
