Tiivistelmä
It is critically important to clearly understand all aspects of the business employing the language of sustainability. The financial parts of the business require being green. It is important to be aware that there are several solutions in the market that can possibly meet these standards and be used at each phase of the construction business. To acquire more business, the leading contractors worldwide are making attempts to enhance their transparency regarding their procedure and approach. While the terminology may vary, the fundamental principles of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) remain same across all construction companies. Virtual reality is transforming construction projects globally. The importance of virtual environment and immersive technology is growing in relation to the physical environment. The objective of this master thesis is to examine the application of virtual reality to enhance ESG considerations in the construction industry. The master thesis offers potential that remains unexplored because of the ongoing evolution of ESG and VR adoption.

The thesis findings emphasize the role of VR models in supporting the ESG objectives of construction organizations. These models serve as immersive platforms that offer real-time feedback and enhance decision-making processes. One of the issues is the quantification of indicators, particularly those that are more theoretical in nature. Despite the significant potential of VR to simplify the delivery and management of projects through accurate portrayal of ESG criteria. The study offers single-indicator case studies to compare the use case scenario for selected indicators and their delivery methodology. The pilot use case scenario suggested by this framework serves as a case study in developing appropriate construction procedures by integrating advanced technology. This framework must be developed for the application of VR in the AEC industry as it would create a smooth, criterion-based approach to assess sustainable practices along with guiding more detailed research for future.
