Tiivistelmä
This study explores how cultural diversity impacts teamwork among European cabin crew members working for airlines operating in the Middle East. In high-stakes industries like aviation, effective teamwork and communication are crucial for flight safety and operational efficiency. By understanding how cultural factors influence teamwork dynamics among cabin crew members, airlines can develop practices and training programs that embrace diversity and enhance cooperation.
Culture shapes how individuals approach teamwork, communicate with one another, and perceive authority in the workplace. Employees’ level of cultural awareness and intercultural skills can either help create a cohesive and collaborative work environment or lead to misunderstandings and conflict. Recognizing cultural diversity and addressing the challenges it brings to multicultural teams is essential for promoting inclusivity and efficiency within the aviation industry.
Data for this study were collected via an online survey, which showed generally positive attitudes towards multiculturalism and diversity among cabin crew members. However, the results also indicated that culture significantly impacts communication styles, conflict resolution approaches, and attitudes towards hierarchy. Additionally, variations in teamwork methods and work ethics influence overall team performance and cohesion. Cultural and linguistic differences were identified as the main factors affecting communication among crew members. The survey results also indicated that cultural diversity is not yet fully integrated into current practices and that cultural training could improve teamwork and communication.
