Tiivistelmä
Post-operative pain remains a significant issue in patients undergoing hip replacement surgery, often complicating recovery and increasing the risk of secondary complications.
The aim of this thesis was to enhance knowledge on post-operative pain management of a hip replacement patient. Descriptive literature review was applied to conduct the study. The online databases Medline and Ebsco were searched in a systematic manner. There was a total of 10 articles relevant to the thesis subject. The data collected from these articles were analyzed using inductive content analysis. Additionally, specific criteria for inclusion and exclusion were applied to identify the pertinent information needed to address the research question in this thesis. The research question of this thesis was: What are the nursing interventions in postoperative pain management of a hip replacement patient?
The study resulted in several interventions. Early mobilization is a key nursing intervention in preventing post-operative complications after hip replacement surgery. Combined with opioid use, it significantly aids in pain management. Collaboration between nurses and physiotherapists is crucial in supporting patient mobility, reducing risks like deep vein thrombosis, and promoting faster recovery through guided physical therapy. This thesis can empower both nurses and patients to speed up the recovery process.
