Tiivistelmä
Logline
After an emotionally chaotic university life, a 20-year-old student seeks solace in the Finnish countryside as a horse keeper. When a hostile environment and a rebellious pony shatter her dreams of peace, an unexpected ally reveals darker truths, forcing her to confront the harsh realities of her new life.
Synopsis
After cutting off her hair, JOHANNA, 20, escapes her turbulent university life and takes a bus deep into the Finnish countryside. She meets AKI, 40, a well-known stable owner living with his harsh mother, LEENA, 73. Despite the stable girl's viciousness and the challenging request to train an aggressive pony, Johanna finds solace in working with the horses. However, her loneliness and impulsiveness lead to occasional drinking, and she is eventually brutally attacked by the pony.
Ready to leave, Aki's flattering words convince her to stay, sparking the beginning of their relationship. As Johanna and Aki grow closer, their tentative romance blossoms from local folk dances to intimate nights in the attic. When Aki's peculiar niece, ANU, 12, visits the stable, her ghostly appearance raises questions, especially after Johanna finds her dead ferret in the icy lake. Anu accuses Aki of killing the ferret, and at the same time, Johanna's jealousy about Aki's model-like ex-wife, RITVA, 33, creates distance between the lovers. While Johanna's charismatic Ex, 40, from the university, appears at the stable, she is more susceptible to falling for him. After the mistake, Johanna struggles to regain Aki's trust. She finds peace when Aki begs her to stay and promises to buy a horse for her. But the newfound hope is shattered by an unsettling photo of Anu hidden in Aki's drawer.
Johanna wanders to a village bar, where the locals shed light on the pony's past as a former champion jumper. Aki explains the photo to Johanna, but the niece's enigma still troubles her. Johanna convinces Anu to prepare for the jumping race with the pony while her affection for Aki diminishes. When Anu is about to win the race, Johanna uncovers evidence of Aki's dark side, leading to a confrontation with Leena, who gets a heart attack. From Johanna's call to the police, Johanna and Anu step into the summer field. Through the bright sunlight, Johanna notices Anu walking happily with the pony.
