Tiivistelmä
The objective of the research is to find out which conditions affect the creation of psychological safety in the workplace, and how psychological safety affects work efficiency.
The research methods used were literature review and qualitative research through interviews. The interviews were conducted in a Finnish company. The results of the study shows that management style influences creating psycho-logical safety, which in turn, affects positively on work efficiency. In addition, the study concluded that leadership style has an effect on the employees' psychological safety, and this leads to better work quality.
The results of the study indicated that companies would benefit on reviewing their management styles to promote a more open work culture where knowledge and ideas would be freely shared, thus creating new business possibilities and reducing risks due to unrecognized challenges or mistakes. Reducing employee turnover also reduces investment costs towards employment, as new recruits will first need to be accommodated to the company’s way of working before, they are able to perform at the same level as other employees in the same position.
