This thesis provides information on bowhunting in Europe while focusing on the Finnish Lapland region and exploring the motives behind domestic tourism. The intention was to collect information with a company that specializes in providing opportunities to bowhunters and utilizing that data to compare it to the beliefs of Lappish bowhunters.
The author has been an archer for twelve years and a registered hunter for four years and is involved in communication within the demographic. The author has knowledge of the rights and laws mandated for hunting in Finland and furthermore a deeper understanding on the subject after the research conducted and analysed.
The accumulated insight received from these two sources have concluded that Lappish bowhunters have the desire and means to domestically travel for new hunting opportunities buy purchasing private land permits and rights given by an outfitting company. The opinions expressed by Lappish bowhunters indicate that there is a desire for large game species not legally acceptable in the province of Lapland but within Finland. Hunting clubs and associations within Finland can utilize the results of this paper to adjust to the means of the Finnish bowhunting minority knowing the responsibility of ethics and conservation behind it, and more accessibility to exclusive Finnish hunting clubs.
