Tiivistelmä
The objective of this project-based thesis was to create a responsive and user-friendly website using the WordPress content management system (CMS). The project’s scope included requirements gathering and selecting a suitable web hosting and domain. The project was initiated with the core need to easily manage the website’s content without extensive coding skills. Future potential website features and functionalities were key aspects while applying design principles. Understanding CMS functionalities further explained the project’s nature to build a website that is easily customized in the future. WordPress platform was chosen for its customization functionalities.
The theoretical framework was based on web design principles and best user interface practices, including Gestalt principles, Schneiderman’s Golden Rules, and colour theory, to support the design decisions. The literature’s review was applied to support the website’s usability and accessibility. The WordPress Elementor plugin was used to design the project’s website content and functionalities. The author customized fonts, colours, and utilised the essential plugins for cookies, reCAPTCHA and others to support the case company’s digital presence. The author experimented with a few search engine optimisation (SEO) plugins, achieving the desired results with Slim SEO. The desired website’s functionalities and Elementor’s widgets were improved by experimenting with code snippets.
The project faced challenges related to evolving requirements and delays due to the author’s health issues. Despite the challenges, the website was successfully delivered, meeting the project’s requirements and commissioners' needs.
The project demonstrated the process of creating a fully responsive and user-friendly website for the company that specialised in delivering cleaning services but hoped to further promote its business as a healthcare provider with cleaning assistance as a package or separately once the necessary license was obtained. The project’s outcome prepares a solid foundation for future website editing, including integrating booking functionalities and online payments.
Overall, the project highlights how WordPress and Elementor can be efficiently used to build a responsive website that aligns with the business objectives, while also allowing future adaptation of the future business’s goals involving healthcare home assistance.
