Tiivistelmä
This study explores the evolving dynamics of the expectations and attitudes of Generation Z employees. It investigates how this generation's unique preferences for working-life balance, and personal well-being are reshaping business practices and influencing employer-employee relationships. The study examines the challenges businesses face in retaining Generation Z talent, particularly as this demographic demonstrates a decreasing long-term loyalty to employers. This study analyses efforts made to remedy these challenges and focuses on employee retention. In addition, it explores negative notions such as that the generation would be less hard working, which was found to be a matter of different expectations and definitions of hard work that the generation do not necessarily feel they need to adhere to.
The research further explores the rise of remote work as a preferred work model, with a notable increase in its adoption post-pandemic. Despite some resistance from employers, the study concludes that flexibility in work arrangements is beneficial for both employees and organisations. A survey was conducted as part of this study, and its finding is that Generation Z feel they will not accept the same conditions as other generations have done. Furthermore, it finds in certain circumstances they would prefer lower paying jobs that they feel more satisfied in.
Additionally, the study addresses societal trends, such as Generation Z's reluctance to have children, which contributes to long-term changes in career and lifestyle preferences. Ultimately, the study suggests that organisations must adapt to these shifts by implementing strategies that support employee satisfaction and flexibility to ensure future success in the rapidly changing workplace.
