This thesis explores the development of a headless e-commerce web application, focusing on the use of Shopify Hydrogen, a modern framework for building customizable, scalable online stores. The project aims to demonstrate how headless architecture can improve the flexibility, performance, and user experience of an e-commerce platform. By leveraging Shopify's backend services and integrating them with a custom-built frontend, the solution decouples the frontend and backend, allowing for more personalized and optimized shopping experiences.
Key technologies such as React, Shopify Hydrogen, and Tailwind CSS are utilized to implement a responsive and performant web application, offering users real-time cart management, smooth interactions, and a seamless shopping journey across devices. This thesis evaluates the strengths and challenges of implementing a headless solution, highlighting the benefits of modular development and the potential for future scalability.
The development process is thoroughly documented to provide a comprehensive description for building headless e-commerce solutions. The thesis finishes with reflections on what was achieved, the lessons learned during the development of the webshop and the possible steps forward.
