The shortage of nurses seems to pose many challenges in the nursing field especially when the world population is rapidly aging. Integration of robotics offers a possible solution to the problem. This thesis aims to explore the potential benefits and challenges of integrating robotics technology in elderly care.
A descriptive literature review enabled us to identify ten relevant articles for this research study that comprehensively analyzed the opportunities and obstacles of incorporating robotics. These articles were selected from four different databases including CINAHL, PubMed, MEDLINE, and ScienceDirect. Only research studies published in the past ten years were selected for this thesis which highlighted the benefits and challenges.
The key findings suggest that using robots has potential benefits and challenges. The use of robots can enhance the quality of care, reduce the strain on healthcare workers, and improve patient outcomes. On the other hand, the adoption of robotic technology faces several challenges, including technological limitations, ethical considerations, and issues related to user acceptance and adoption. While the advantages of robotic assistance are promising, successfully addressing the associated challenges will require sustained research, the development of appropriate policies, and educational initiatives. These efforts are crucial to ensure that robotics can be integrated into healthcare systems in a manner that is both effective and ethically sound in the future.
