Leveraging Building Information Modelling (BIM) Tools for Enhanced Economic Benefits in Facility Management : a Study on Early Adoption in Construction Projects

Abstract

This research work analyses the economic benefits brought in by integrating Building information Modelling tools into the facility management (FM) phase of construction projects. Emphasizing early, this study investigates how BIM improves data continuity, maintenance, space management, sustainability and overall cost savings. Implementing a combination of literature review, case studies and questionnaires, the research demonstrates how preventive maintenance and communication among stakeholders becomes improved when BIM is implemented laying the ground for reduced operational costs and longer asset life span. The outcome of this study shows that a holistic BIM implementation is important to maximize economic benefits in FM as BIM continues to transform the way facility management operates and underscoring the transformative potential of BIM in modern facility management practices.
