This thesis explores the advantages and challenges of tourism development in Nepal, emphasizing the impacts of infrastructure, political stability, natural disasters, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability. Nepal’s tourism industry is essential for its economic growth as one of the world's premier trekking destinations. However, the sector faces significant obstacles that threaten its long-term sustainability. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study combines survey data from 100 respondents and secondary data analysis to evaluate perceptions of tourism among locals and visitors.
The findings indicate that tourism contributes positively to Nepal's local economy, fostering job creation and income generation. However, factors such as inadequate infrastructure, political instability, environmental degradation, and vulnerability to natural disasters hinder the sector's growth. Survey respondents emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices and supported stricter regulations to safeguard cultural heritage and ecologically sensitive areas. Additionally, the results highlight a need for proactive government initiatives and enhanced community engagement to create an inclusive and sustainable tourism model.
The thesis concludes with actionable recommendations to address the identified challenges. These include investing in infrastructure improvements, such as upgrading transportation and accommodation facilities; promoting eco-friendly tourism initiatives, such as waste management programs in trekking routes; ensuring political stability through consistent and transparent tourism policies; and strengthening governmental support by allocating dedicated resources for community-based tourism projects. By implementing these measures, Nepal can protect its natural and cultural assets while fostering sustainable growth in its tourism sector, ensuring long-term economic and environmental benefits.
