This thesis explores the data analytics job market in Finland, aiming to review and identify the top in-demand skills. To achieve this, several key subjects are presented and discussed as well as an end-to-end data analysis project carried out. The practical project encompasses data acquisition, data warehousing, and business intelligence phases.
As a graduate or a career changer aspiring to enter the field of data analytics, it is highly beneficial to understand the skillset which is required to succeed. This thesis identified the high-in-demand job skills in the Finnish job market. Using Python and web scraping libraries, job ad data was acquired, while Microsoft Fabric facilitated the data analysis pipeline. Alongside identifying key technical skills and personal attributes, this thesis reviews fundamental topics such as benefits of public cloud, data analysis methodologies, data modeling, and legal considerations of web scraping activities.
Results of the thesis project yielded many insights that are useful for job seekers or educational institutions. Soft skills were found to be highly valued among recruiters in the data analytics field. It was also inferred that companies or organizations who employ analytics are forward-thinking and willing to adapt to new technologies. Microsoft was shown to dominate the public cloud and business intelligence landscape in Finland.
