This thesis explores the multifaceted causes of nurse turnover, a significant issue affecting healthcare systems worldwide. The study employs a literature review to identify and analyze factors contributing to nurse turnover across var-ious regions and cultural contexts. The primary objectives are to understand the reasons behind nurse turnover and to provide insights into potential inter-ventions for improving nurse retention.
The methodology involved defining relevant keywords, conducting compre-hensive database searches, and reviewing peer-reviewed articles from the past decade. Key findings were categorized into personal, work-related, or-ganizational, and external factors. Notable factors include health issues, burn-out, leadership challenges, and external competition.
The findings emphasize the complexity of nurse turnover and its far-reaching implications for healthcare services. Effective strategies, such as enhancing workplace conditions, ensuring sufficient staffing and adequate rest, providing professional development opportunities, and fostering supportive organiza-tional cultures, are essential for addressing this issue.
Key words: nurse turnover, retention, intention to leave
