Tiivistelmä
In recent years, hybrid work has become more prevalent in modern working environments. In the broader sense, hybridity can be seen as being in its infancy as some companies have not had hybrid work for more than a decade.
This thesis examines the challenges of leadership in a hybrid work environment, with a focus on sales team management at Telia Finland. The study attempts to identify challenges that managers face in leading hybrid teams and provide concrete improvement suggestions based on theory and empirical data. The theoretical background was formed around definitions about hybrid work, and leadership theories. The sources used for the theoretical background range from literature, articles and studies in Finnish as well as English.
A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with five sales team managers from different regions. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring challenges, including communication ambiguities, performance monitoring difficulties, and varied employee motivation across different working channels. The findings suggest that hybrid leadership requires a balance between digital monitoring and in-person presence, as well as adaptive motivation techniques.
This study contributes to the understanding of hybrid leadership challenges and provides practical recommendations to improve managerial effectiveness in hybrid work environments, particularly within the retail sales sector of Telia Finland
