Tiivistelmä
This thesis looks at how database systems and Learning Management Systems (LMS) support education and training in the modern world, with a focus on one such system: Oracle Academy’s Applied Database Systems course. First, the study looks at the history of database systems and their importance in technological advancement. Then it examines various LMS platforms, the features they have, the advantages and disadvantages of using them in education, and how they can be used effectively.

To determine the quality of Oracle Academy’s Applied Database Systems course, this study uses the MOOC Quality Assessment Framework (MQAF) that assesses content quality, pedagogical effectiveness, accessibility, feedback mechanisms, and learner engagement. The findings of the study reveal that the course offers a sufficient amount of detailed and applicable database information, but the learner engagement and accessibility could be enhanced by the use of features such as live discussions and a more communal approach to the learning process.

The research also identifies both the strengths and weaknesses of the current state of online database education, and the work further suggests some potential future enhancements, such as the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into the learning process for the purpose of individualizing the learning experience, as well as the incorporation of gamification strategies to increase learners’ interest in the course material. As such, this study adds to the body of knowledge on online database education and offers suggestions for enhancing learning experiences within the digital environment.
