The aim of this thesis was to explore how nursing interventions affected breast cancer patients in order to improve their quality of life. It also aimed at assessing and identifying nursing interventions that improve the quality of life among these patients.
This descriptive literature review analyzed ten research articles sourced through PubMed, CINAHL, ProQuest, and manual database searches. An inductive content analysis was applied to answer the research questions.
The data was represented in two analysis tables, each with two main categories and several generic categories, showing the findings in a tabular, methodical manner.
The research questions guiding this thesis were (1) What nursing interventions are used for breast cancer patients? and (2) How do these nursing interventions affect the quality of life for breast cancer patients?
The findings pointed towards two major themes. The first theme, that of the nursing interventions, was founded on 13 generic categories and 35 subcategories. Secondly, the theme that evaluated the effect of nursing intervention on quality of life, which used five generic categories with 26 subcategories, was used. The study recommended that nurses’ interventions improve the quality of life in cases of breast cancer patients.
