Empathy is the cornerstone of effective nursing care and has a significant impact on the therapeutic connection between nurses and patients. This study explores how patients perceive nurses’ empathetic behaviours in hospital settings and how these perceptions affect their overall satisfaction with receiving healthcare.
Twenty five peer reviewed articles from 2014 to 2024 were examined using a descriptive literature review. According to the research, empathic behaviors which include good communication, emotional presence, and active listening improve patient satisfaction, trust, and treatment plan adherence. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that empathy reduces patient tension and promotes a feeling of security and comprehension.
The importance of empathy in patient centered care is emphasised in this study, as is the possibility of enhancing clinical results by using compassionate nursing techniques. The study highlights the value of empathy in patient centered care as well as the potential for improving clinical outcomes through the application of compassionate nursing practices. The study is intended to educate healthcare professionals, educators, and student nurses the need of encouraging compassionate nursing practices, which will ultimately improve the standard of care provided in hospital environments.
