Tiivistelmä
This research adopts a Descriptive Literature Review. The articles were collected from credible and important databases. It is hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) that trouble the healthcare systems the most. They troubled mostly areas of acute care because other considerations make the patients susceptible. Nurses are important for the work because they followed various protocols and guidelines that aim at reducing HAIs like hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and environmental cleaning. And adherence to these protocols is very important, which leads to the association of HAIs with increased morbidity, longer hospital stays, and rehospitalization costs.

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of acute care nurses in infection prevention and the variables that affect their compliance with infection control protocols. The study was aimed at providing insights that can be carried forward into practice among nurses and the healthcare administrators on infection prevention in acute care settings.

A descriptive literature review was performed, with articles founded upon reliable databases including CINAHL, MEDLINE and PubMed. Overall, 15 articles representing qualitative, and mixed methods studies from 2014-2024 were reviewed. The data were analyzed through inductive content analysis looking at the identified themes around the infection control practices and challenges acute care nurses experience.

The first study outcome highlights important findings on infection prevention practices such as hand hygiene, PPE usage, and environmental cleaning. Furthermore, the study identified that appropriate staffing, accessibility to resources, and supervision are crucial elements in encouraging adherence to the infection control measures. It has been found that barriers like inadequate staffing and limited resources undermine the prevention of infections.

This much-anticipated study gives further evidence-based knowledge on the necessity of solid infection-traveling practices and the support systems needed in acute care settings. The health administrators and policymakers would justify their importance in providing adequate staffing and resources for nurses to continue their services at the highest standards in infection prevention, thus improving patient safety and enhancing the quality of care.

This study has undergone a turnitin check where it revealed an acceptable number of similarities.
