Tiivistelmä
Finnish universities primarily receive core funding from the state budget, which is depending on the number of graduated students, and same time they must secure external funding from various sources. Students at Metropolia University of Applied Science have mandatory internships and thesis, which are expected to get from industry. The poor economic situation in Finland makes it challenging for students to get internships positions from industry, which impacts students’ ability to graduate and that way it also impacts universities to get its funding. The scope of this thesis was to study how School of ICT at Metropolia University of Applied Science manages its relationship with industry and give recommendations on how to improve it to guarantee that students will graduate in requested time.

To ensure graduation in needed schedule, the implementation of the internship must be followed and, if necessary, internships within Metropolia must be offered. Opportunities for internal training, such as maintenance roles for innovation projects, should be developed. To optimize costs, teacher involvement should be minimized by using internal trainees to manage teams and for partner communications. Establishing a new collaboration platform with clearly defined processes maximizes the benefits of internship teams and creates more opportunities for internship and thesis projects. This approach ensures students graduate on schedule and secures university funding.
