Tiivistelmä
The thesis was commissioned by a digital consulting agency that operates under a hybrid remote work model. Online meetings serve as a primary mode of communication and collaboration within the company, enabling teams across different locations to work remotely, conduct discussions, share updates, and make decisions remotely. The purpose of this study was to address the gap in understanding how actively employees participate and contribute during meetings. This was guided by two questions focused on identifying the factors leading to low participation and involvement and the solutions that can enhance employee engagement in online meetings.

The study explores employee involvement and participation (EIP) in online meetings and hybrid work, providing an understanding of the online meeting environment and emphasizing its impact on engagement and productivity. A mixed-method approach was utilized to gather primary data, combining qualitative and quantitative methods in which the company’s employees were surveyed, and five employees were interviewed.

The research identified that low employee involvement and participation were influenced by the quality of the agenda, lack of camera usage, and the overall structure and design of the meeting. These results offered insights into enhancing the online meeting environment and improving employee involvement and participation and guided the final output of the thesis, which provided recommendations based on the identified factors. The author suggests that future research should examine the changing dynamics of online meetings and participants' perceptions, particularly in remote and hybrid work environments.
