This product-based bachelor’s Thesis was conducted to enhance the onboarding process of the commissioning company’s case unit, an outsourced health center. The final product, an online onboarding survey, was developed with Microsoft Forms to be integrated to support the post-onboarding discussion. The objectives were to provide employees with a structured way to express their experiences from the onboarding period and to offer insights for the management into the individual needs and thoughts of their employees. Moreover, in the long run, the survey data could be utilized to identify the onboarding process’s effectively working areas and the ones needing development, which in the long run could help to transform the onboarding period’s role-specific section towards a more individually tailored process.
The theoretical framework of the thesis introduced the concepts of onboarding and employee engagement from multiple perspectives and was followed by an explanation of the project management methodologies. The applied methodologies included benchmarking an existing onboarding survey, conducting anonymous interviews with case unit personnel, and piloting the initial draft of the online onboarding survey within the case unit.
The interview responses and feedback from the survey piloting were used to further develop the final product. The final online onboarding survey covered diverse areas of the case health center’s practices, ranging from everyday tasks to employment-related details. The questions included open-ended questions and scales such as Likert and Net Promoter Score.
Ultimately, the theoretical framework and insights from the case unit’s personnel created a foundation for the online onboarding survey, which received positive approval from the commissioning company. If utilized systematically after each new employee’s onboarding, the survey can provide both short-term and long-term benefits for the case unit.
