Tiivistelmä
Fractures in elderly patients, often due to trauma, falls, or diseases like osteoporosis, pose serious challenges due to reduced bone density, slower healing, and increased comorbidities. These injuries may result in immobility, reduced quality of life, and loss of independence; thus, effective nursing interventions become paramount. As the world's elderly population is still growing and is expected to double by 2050, so does the need for specialized fracture care.

This study will explore the critical role of nursing interventions in managing elderly fracture patients, focusing on preoperative, postoperative, and rehabilitation phases. A descriptive literature review was employed to analyze and synthesize evidence from various studies, emphasizing the effectiveness of nursing practices in improving outcomes. Preoperative care involves systematic exercises, hygiene practices, and psychological preparation aimed at reducing anxiety and enhancing surgical success.
Pain management, mobilization, and prevention of complications such as pressure ulcers and delirium are the focuses of postoperative interventions. Rehabilitation aims to reinstate functionality, improve psychological status, and achieve long-term independence with personalized physical and psychological interventions.

Key findings stress a holistic approach to nursing and patient-centered care, including physical, emotional, and social needs for optimal recovery. Nurses are also very instrumental in education, prevention, and goal setting on an individual basis to enhance compliance, independence, and overall well-being. The study emphasizes that comprehensive nursing care not only minimizes complications but also greatly improves the quality of life for elderly fracture patients.
