Defining a Test Management Tool for a Manufacturing Company

Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to define the requirements for a hardware test management tool for the case company. This was done by researching test management practices and tools. Along with the test management research, requirements engineering for requirements elicitation and documentation were explored.

The research approach of this thesis was applied, mixed field study. Data was collected in three separate rounds, between the rounds, the data was analyzed and then the next step was then decided based on the analysis. The data collection was done from interviews and workshops.

The theoretical framework of this thesis focused on test management tools and best practices in test management. The second focus was on requirements management and product requirements documentation practices.

The outcome of the thesis is a product requirement document for a hardware test management system, based specifically on the requirements of the userbase of the case company. The product requirement document was implemented internally to improve the test management practices in the case company.
