This thesis investigated how the music industry is changing, with a special emphasis on the independent artist business model and its viability in the digital era.
The study used secondary data and interviews with independent musicians Shrty and Ghxst to investigate the reasons for their independence, the problems they confront, and the important elements influencing their success.
According to the results, artists are progressively turning away from traditional label contracts due to the availability of digital technology, the need for financial independence, and the demand for creative autonomy. But independence also has drawbacks, such poor time management, financial limitations, and a lack of marketing and promotion experience.
The research concludes that the role of record labels is shifting in the artist-centric music industry, emphasizing the significance of transparency and fair collaborations. Proposals include addressing the challenges of independence by offering more support in areas like marketing and resource management.
