The objective of this thesis was to establish a new business model for a case company that sells molecular microbial testing solutions for the food market and aims to start offering similar solutions for the beverage market.
The study presented herein utilized applied action research where data was gathered using qualitative methods that mainly consisted of interviews and open questions. The purpose of the data collection was to gather information on customer needs, competitors’ offerings, and the current capabilities of the case company. The various stages of the study represented the action research cycles.
The outcome of this thesis is a new business model. The study outlines the main aspects of the business model. The detailed business model, identity of the potential customers, and the case company name are labelled confidential, as request by the case company.
A variety of innovative business models have appeared in recent years due to the increased competition in today’s global markets. Companies are urged to creatively uncover new markets in order to thrive. The new business model supports the case company aims to expand its customer base beyond food manufacturers.
