Tiivistelmä
Post-COVID aerospace supply chain reorientation together with sustainability targets at aviation industry have been reshaping the market. The industry change has opened new opportunities, which materialized in the form of long-term partnership between the case company and aircraft system manufacturer in the field of aircraft component support services. The case company didn’t have a business model in place causing leadership challenges to transform the business.

To address this gap, the objective of this thesis is to develop a business model for the case company’s component maintenance services Business Area (BA). The research follows a structured approach, utilizing mainly qualitative and some quantitative methods suitable for a practical business development project.

The research is based on gathering triangulated data at different stages of this study. The study was started by reviewing the relevant literature, forming the basis of the Conceptual Framework (CF), which outlines key theories on business model development. The outcome of FC prepared for the Data 1, that was collected through a Current State Analysis (CSA). CSA covered the current operating model, customer needs and competitors offering providing findings from multiple data sources and informants mainly in the form of workshops and theme interviews with internal business managers and a key customer. The insights from these stages were then utilized to co-create an initial business model with key stakeholders through Data 2 gathered during workshops and one-to-one sessions. Finally, the initial business model was validated employing Data 3, collected through review and feedback sessions with managers and company’s decision-makers, ensuring business model alignment with company’s business objectives and market expectations.

The outcome of this thesis is a business model for component maintenance services, offering recommendations for practical next steps for implementation and communication. This outcome provides the company with a new business to leverage on dual segments enhancing airline financial and operational performance.
