The objective of this thesis was to create a framework for data and analytics development for the case company. The company has set a new course in its strategic development where data and analytics need to follow. The thesis reviews different maturity models, investigates implementations of chosen models, and investigates the case company’s current data and analysis practices.
The study was made based on applied action research approach, where the analysis of internal documents, and interviews and workshops with stakeholders were main sources of data gathering. The current state analysis examined the current status of case company’s data and analytics development maturity. Available knowledge and best practice were used to review existing maturity models. These best practices guided the proposal development to serve the case company’s needs. Co-creating with stakeholders provided guidelines towards the needed development path.
The outcome of this study is a Data and Analytics maturity model for the case company. The maturity model includes ten dimensions: Business strategy, Data & Analytics strategy, Business planning, Goals, Culture, Procedures, Processes, Roles & Responsibilities, Compliance and Resilience. It presents five maturity levels for development, where the case company’s current level is evaluated at level two. In this model, the case company has a description how its operations in relation to data and analytics should look like, when the next maturity level is reached.
