Tiivistelmä
This diary-based thesis examines the operational challenges and their runtime solutions experienced by courier workers in Posti Palvelut Oy which is Finland’s leading postal and logistics company. Based on author’s personal experiences as a reliever courier in the eastern Helsinki areas, he reflects on the daily challenges of mail and newspaper delivery using various modes of transportation including car, scooter and cycle. The thesis covers a monitoring period from 15th February till 16th March then again from 9th April till 10th May 2025, during which author documented his tasks, observations, and strategies.
The main objective of this thesis is to explore how time management functions as a key professional development tool in the courier industry. Timely deliveries are the backbone of logistics, but factors for example route complexity, weather variables, vehicle maintenance, and coordination with team members pose as constant challenges. By analysing author’s work routines and identifying some inadequacies, the research aims to propose practical and experience-based suggestions for improving time usage within delivery operations.
This study is limited to local delivery work in Finland and does not involve broader international or governmental postal policies. Ultimately, the thesis offers insights into how mastering time management can lead to better service quality and operational efficiency in the Finnish courier sector.
