The objective of this thesis was to build a plan for how the case company could monitor partner profitability daily with the help of Power BI. The case company operates in the logistics field and offers its services nationwide in Finland. To meet the customers’ transport needs, the company uses logistics partners. The company uses settlements to pay its partners. The company lacks insight into how profitable its partners are to its operations. As the settlement and profitability processes require manual labor, the company aims to automate its reporting with the help of Power BI.
The study used Applied action research, and the research data was collected through interviews, workshops, and the company’s internal data sources. The current state analysis focused on the current settlement and profitability processes, and the current use of Power BI. The conceptual framework was discovered based on the issues brought up from the current state analysis. The conceptual framework consists of data quality for reporting, automating the reporting process in Power BI, and managing the process change. The initial proposal was built with the company’s ICT department, and the final proposal was created based on the company’s key stakeholder’s feedback.
The outcome of the study is a proposed solution plan for monitoring profitability (with the help of Power BI) to enable the tracking of daily costs and shipments for each partner. The thesis provides guidelines on what the company should do to better monitor the profitability of its partners.
