Tiivistelmä
Effective communication plays a crucial role in building a positive school climate, particularly in early childhood education settings. This study explores the relationship between communication practices and school climate within the Finnish educational context, focusing on daycare environments. Grounded in an extensive theoretical framework, the research questions examine how communication between managers and staff is carried out and its influence on the school climate, which is the main goal of this study.
To investigate these dynamics, qualitative research was designed. A survey was conducted among daycare managers and workers of private daycares across Finland. The collected data were analyzed to identify strengths, challenges, and key areas for improvement in communication practices. Based on the findings, a brief performance guideline was developed, achieving the second goal proposed and providing actionable recommendations to enhance communication effectiveness and foster a more supportive and inclusive school climate.
The results highlight the importance of structured and transparent communication, active listening, and feedback mechanisms in creating a positive working environment, together with the need for managers’ training in these areas and a reflection of the communication channels used. By implementing the suggested guidelines, Finnish daycare institutions can strengthen professional relationships, improve teamwork, and ultimately enhance the quality of early childhood education.
