Tiivistelmä
This thesis focuses on the design and implementation of a collaborative robot (cobot) work cell for industrial manufacturing. The cobot work cell was developed using the Omron TM5-900 cobot. The aim was to automate and optimize multiprocess manufacturing tasks such as screwing, glue dispensing, and component assembly. The project was conducted in collaboration with Cariitti Oy, a Finnish company specializing in lighting solutions for sauna and spa environments.

The work cell integrates several advanced components including OnRobot endeffectors, a Techcon pneumatic glue dispenser, and a rotary switch-based user interface. Programming and task coordination were implemented using the TMflow software platform. The designed cobot work cell enables the cobot to perform different manufacturing processes based on manual input selection, improving productivity, and allocation of human labour.

Results show that the cobot work cell successfully completed the assembly of sauna light projectors and spotlights, achieving higher accuracy and reduced human involvement in repetitive tasks. Compared to manual production, the automated system demonstrated improved consistency and a reduction in total processing time for spotlight manufacturing by up to 85%. The return on investment was estimated at approximately 1.4 years.

The thesis demonstrates the practical benefits of cobot integration for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and offers a modular approach to automation using existing infrastructure.
