Abstract

This thesis tackles a simple but urgent problem: many small financial businesses run on network systems that were never built for today’s nonstop digital world. Through a systematic review of current research, industry reports and real world case studies, the study builds a clear, step by step framework that helps these firms modernize their networks without enterprise level budgets. The framework unites three hard goals strong security, easy scalability and smart performance optimization into one practical playbook. It centres on three common scenarios: firms taking their first digital steps organizations trying to fix aging networks and growing businesses preparing to scale across regions. For each scenario the thesis offers tailored checklists, detailed design tables and phased roadmaps that cover connectivity, identity, monitoring, automation and compliance. Ten specific recommendations translate theory into action, showing how zero trust security, SD WAN resilience and infrastructure as code pipelines can work in lean IT environments. The result is a lightweight guide that turns scattered best practices into a coherent plan that any community bank, credit union or niche fintech can follow.
