The aim of the work was to search for connections between the processes of short-term projects and team sports. The objective of the thesis was to study if former team sports athletes are more prepared for jobs that involve project work when their athletic career ends.
The literature review of the work includes subjects such as project management methodologies, role assignment within teams, performance analysis, and goal-setting theory. The collection of primary qualitative data through interviews was chosen as the research method for this thesis. Several employees of the client organization, Ponsse Plc, were interviewed to gain insight into the research question as well as the practical uses of the theories studied in the literature review.
Through the examination of past literature and the interview responses, it can be determined that former team sports athletes have an advantage when transitioning to working life. Companies should not only consider the experiences of former team sports athletes, but value it highly. Further research on the subject could expand upon the characteristics of former team sports athletes that make the advantage possible.
