Tiivistelmä
This thesis focuses on developing a short drama business model for a small film and television production company in China. The case company is mainly engaged in the advertising video business and has a high-quality level of production. Currently, the case company is planning to develop a short drama business to increase its revenue streams. However, so far, this business lacks a well-researched and clear business model. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a short drama business model for the case company, focusing on revenue stream.

This study adopts a qualitative research method, based on analyzing external interviews with industry competitors, internal interviews with stakeholders, and collected industry data, which is used to analyze the short drama business and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the case company in this business, as well as to focus on priorities for development. The theoretical framework is related to business model development, dynamic capabilities, partners and revenue streams.

The outcome of this thesis is the development of a short drama business model for the case company. The case company’s stakeholders actively participated in the process and co-created the business model. After the initial business model was developed, it was validated through a short drama bidding project. The stakeholders discussed the validation results and provided feedback. Their suggestions helped to adjust the initial business model into the form of the final short drama business model.

The business model is important to the case company as it lays the foundation to develop its short drama business. It can also serve as a framework to help the case company in continuous optimization of its short drama business, as well as for monitoring the revenue stream performance. Currently, the case company has begun to adopt this business model in its short drama business with the main focus on managing the revenue stream.
